Greetings friends, family, supporters and patrons!
I have some exciting updates and events to mark in your calendar. The St Lukes Liturgical Calendar will be unveiled on Sunday 6 November 2022. St Lukes Church meets at 146 Devonport Road, Tauranga at 10:00am every Sunday. Come along to hear me talk about the work and see it for yourself in the flesh. Speaking of flesh, that is one of the key ideas of traditional iconography, the incarnation, the word made flesh. Hundreds of years ago church leaders debated and then decided that it was ok for us to make icons, images of Christ and the saints, because God came and lived among us incarnated - in the flesh. He was presented for us to see and hear, and so we carry on the tradition of emulation and discipleship, as image bearers of God.
Here is the progress image currently.
TAG Team V3!
The TAG team has reunited for another group exhibition of all the latest creations from our studio practice. This will be opening Thursday the 17th of November and remain open until Sunday 20th November. We'll be exhibiting in what was Beyond Fitness, at 168A Devonport Road, Tauranga. TAG Team is a group of artists who are, or were employees of Tauranga Art Gallery. More details to follow. Check our Instagram page for examples of our work at previous exhibitions TAG TEAM.
Hot Sauce!
I make the best Hot Sauce. Just ask Latoya. Lovingly crafted from home grown habanero, ghost and scorpion peppers and carefully blended with red wine, garlic, thyme and other bits of tasty goodness, it is a spicy kick with an interesting flavour. Heat rating 7/10. Limited supply. Buy now from my website.
Art Installation
Just yesterday I helped install this amazing work by Emma Prill into a beautiful home in Mt Maunganui. It was a pleasure to work with Emma again, I helped install her Atrium work Colourfield at Tauranga Art Gallery a few years ago. The new owner of this artwork was delighted. Who wouldn't be! Check out her website and Instagram and commission a work for yourself!
Final Thoughts
This new adventure into self employment and art making has been fantastic. I am delighted to be doing what I love and in some way serving the needs of my community. I have had good run of art sales, sign painting, art installation and art making jobs that have helped me pay the bills while I work on the big Liturgical Calendar / Icon painting. I'm very grateful. I've had to dig deep into a meditation practice and develop holy, whole and wholesome habits that sustain and steer me through times when doubt, fear and lack of funds threaten to derail me.
I hope that my art making can serve as a conversation starter, a point of contemplation that leads to a deeper understanding of the mysteries of life and a richer connection to one another. The "Why" behind all of this is: To create works of beauty, so that we may know wonder and enchantment. If this is something that resonates with you and you feel like you want to contribute, I have created an option to donate on the shop page. Click here. Thank you.
I have limited edition prints and 12 original artworks available to purchase immediately. For those who live in Tauranga, shipping costs will pay for delivery and installation!
