Greetings friends, family, supporters and patrons!
Nearly there! 3 weeks until the St Lukes Liturgical Calendar will be completed. Come along to the unveiling on Sunday 6 November 2022 to hear me talk about the work. St Lukes Church meets at 146 Devonport Road, Tauranga at 10:00am every Sunday. Prints will be available in various sizes and I'm looking into producing a calendar that has all the usual holidays and liturgical dates.
Here is the progress image currently with some details of winter and spring.
The image to the right is my first attempt at something like Iconography. Artists have been making images like this for centuries and it was the subject of fierce debate in the 8th century. Many though it was wrong to create "graven images" that could become idolatrous objects. That was all resolved at the seventh Ecumenical Council of AD 787 where it was understood that veneration of Icons was worshipping the person of Christ depicted, not the wood and paint. Icons have a particular look and style that has links to the Byzantine aesthetic but also because it is an attempt at depicting figures in a supra-natural state.
Hot Sauce!
The New Zealand Hotsauce Festival was fantastic. I got to meet lots of hot sauce producers and sample their tasty wares. Here's a pic of the team looking ace in the t-shirts (available HERE). I think nephew Kyran sampled every hot sauce available, including the super hots! I have about 50 seedlings ready to plant out soon for an even bigger production next year of 1000 bottles. I will have 5 flavour options: Habanero Red Wine, Ginger Lime, Pumpkin Orange, Extra Garlic and Scorpion Sting (super hot). I only have 30 bottles left of this years Habanero Red Wine batch so get in quick!
TAG Team V3!
TAG team is a group of artists that once upon a time all worked together at Tauranga Art Gallery. Many of us have now moved on but the bonds formed are still strong and we will be exhibiting together again with the opening on the 24th of November until Sunday 27th November. We'll be exhibiting in what was Beyond Fitness, at 168A Devonport Road, Tauranga.

Mother and Child framed prints
Many people have asked for a print of the Mother and Child painting I did for my Mum a few years back. Now is the time! I have seven beautiful frames so each print will come framed and ready to hang. This painting is becoming more poignant to me as it ages. It is a copy of a Raphael painting and connects to a long tradition of investigating the idea of the divine feminine. Since painting it as a mothers day gift many years ago I have become a parent so I now have a deeper connection after witnessing the everyday sacrifices of a mother. I also see this painting every time I visit mum in her rest home. For those who don't know, Mum has Alzheimers disease and is slowly forgetting everything and everyone. It's heartbreaking to watch this once competent and highly organised woman become confused and needing constant care. I will donate 10% of profits to Alzheimers New Zealand.
